Fundraising for the Team

Saturday March 20th, 2010
1:00pm - 4:00pm
South Kitsap High School

The Cross Sound Challenge is the Seals' annual fundraiser, and if you ask anyone who participated in it last year - it is a blast too!

This year, we plan to go off-island again to accommodate the number of swimmers participating, and to hold a family swim after the event.

It is approx. 3.4 miles across The Sound from Vashon to Fauntleroy — that’s 6000 yards or 240 lengths of the South Kitsap Pool (or 300 in the Athletic Club Pool).

Relay Teams will swim for 2 hours on Saturday March 20th, to see how far ‘across’ The Sound they can get in that time.

All swimmers are expected to participate, from the White Group to the Gold Swimmers. And the club hope that each swimmer will raise over $150 per family.

Awards will be handed out for the teams who complete the most yards, have the best attitude, work hardest, cheer loudest... Everyone is guarenteed to have fun, and raise valuable funds for the club to help keep the program affordable to all.

Parents and volunteers are also needed as lap counters for each team to tally the amount of yards swum.

We look forward to celebrating with a big Pizza party at the ROCK after the event!

Letter from the President:

Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who volunteered for the Challenge Meet and your continuing volunteer efforts for the club. It is because of your hard work that we are such a cohesive and successful team.

Our biggest fundraiser of the year is fast approaching this Saturday! In past years, much of our fundraising was directed at replacing training equipment and staff development. This year, our fundraising is serving a much more significant purpose; helping our team members stay in the pool.

Pool rental fees have increased, and many of you may have read the Beachcomber article on changes in the Vashon Park District's budget. This year’s budget includes new reductions in the VPD’s Reduced Fee Program. By reducing this budget, VPD is increasing the amount individual programs must provide in the form of scholarships or fee waivers. In our case, this has become at least a $5000 requirement if we want to support all the swimmers who qualify for the VPD Reduced Fee Program.

Co-hosting the January Challenge swim meet provided an effective and fun way to raise money. By generously giving your time and raising pledges for the Cross Sound Challenge (whether you swim this Saturday or at a later date) you will help keep club fees affordable to all.

We ask that each family try to raise $100, and all monies raised should be collected and returned by the end of March.

Thank you for your commitment and participation in making 2010 a special and successful year for the entire Vashon Seals Swim Team!
