Welcome:
The Board and Coaches would like to welcome all our swimmers and their families to the fall session.
Evaluations and training have been going well during these first two weeks, and we have had chance to assess all the swimmers in the water. If you have any comments about swimmer placement, we are happy to discuss your observations or concerns.
By Orientation, each swimmer will have a blue folder which will be stored on-deck in the VAC locker. The folder contains the initial evaluation, plus information about a swimmers times and goals for this session. Goals vary from level to level, and can be as simple as mastering a specific skill, through to knocking seconds off a best time.
We would also like to find out about parents' goals for the session, so please feel free to approach your coaches, before or after practice, to chat about your expectations.
All the coaches value clear communication with every swimmer and his/her family, and welcome feedback.
On Deck:
Our younger swimmers have been enjoying a real treat, as one of our most experienced racers has joined the training staff. Nick Wiesnet won the Club's Outstanding Swimmer award at the Summer BBQ, and is now taking the time to pass on his wealth of knowledge. As the season progresses, we hope that he will be able to work with all levels in the team.
Tuesday's practice session was also exciting for the Level 2 swimmers, as 2 of our racing team worked with Coach Kristen to demonstrate Butterfly. It is one of the coaches season goals to have more interaction between all levels of swimmer, and really build up our team unity.
Reminders:
The Athletic club as asked us to remind swimmers about a few rules that we all need to keep in mind:
1) Please do not use the lockers. These are for members only.
2) Please ensure that all swimmers only use the restroom in the 'wet' section of the changing rooms.
3) Please shower before getting in the pool
4) 3 minute showers after swimming - we have a lot of swimmers using up that valuable hot water!
5) Swim caps to be put on pool-side, please. We need to keep the changing rooms as dry as possible for the Athletic Club Members.
6) The pool-side emergency exit should only be used in an emergency. Please use the front door for entering or leaving the club.
Lost & Found:
One of our swimmers has lost a lens from her glasses. Be on the look-out in case it has fallen into your swimmer's towel or bag. You can give it to one of the coaches if you find it.
We still have a handful of swim bags available. They are $35 each, and will be sold on a first come, first served basis. For swimmers who have already purchased a bag, please make sure it is labeled clearly with the swimmer's name, as it can be confusing in the changing room!
Finally, we'd like to remind all swimmers to bring swim caps and goggles to practice, and remember no swimming on Friday Sept 22nd, as we have orientation at McMurry Middle School, in the multi-purpose room - 5:30-7:00pm.
See you on-deck!
Bruce, Kristen, Lisa & Nick
