“Age group swimming builds a strong foundation for a lifetime of good physical and mental health by teaching time management, self-discipline and healthy fitness habits.”
What is Age Group Swimming?
Age-group training allows swimmers to develop at their own pace with their peers. Many children improve rapidly during the early stages due to growth and improved skills. For our younger swimmers the emphasis is placed on technique and not intense training. Swimmers are placed in different practice squads according to their age and abilities, progressing from novice through to advanced.
The training schedule for our younger swimmers allows them enough time to participate in other activities, as swimming at the youngest levels needs to be fun and pressure free, yet filled with learning experiences.
Our older athletes have a great commitment to their sport, and a more intense training schedule, with the top level swimmers practicing 10hrs per week.
The coaches work with each swimmer to design an individual and specific training plan and schedule that will ensure improved performance.
At the beginning of each session, the swimmers know which meets they will attend, and their training plan is tailored to ensure they will be at their peak performance for those meets.
With the professional assistance of The Vashon Athletic Club, we have designed a dry-land training program that focuses specifically on the competitive swimmer's needs.
